Christmas 2009 Company Party

I just got home after a fun Company Christmas party. It was better than last year. This year, I had a dSLR with me. I also had a borrowed external flash (which I didn't know how to use). So I played the role of a freelance photographer tonight -- with no pay.

The party was held at Marriott Hotel, Cebu. As I criticized their food in a previous post, then so shall I criticize it again. It wasn't even close to good. Maybe I am used to eating a poor man's meal, with way too much MSG for flavoring, that food from prestigious hotels like the above mentioned becomes tasteless.

There was a band this time around. They are called Pandora, a local band. They played great music, typical of bands who get booked to play on events. But they mostly played cover songs. So I can't say how good their original stuff is. Granting that they are releasing their album on the 17th, then maybe if I get my hands on a copy, I will post a review. Nevertheless, their choice of music tonight was familiar to most people there. In other words, a safe playlist.

When everything is free, that's bonus points for greatness. Food and entertainment were free. Prizes were given away to some lucky winners. What's there to complain about?

P.S. As our team placed 3rd on the departmental party last week, we were forced to represent our department in the said company party. Begrudgingly we did an encore of the presentation. And we won 2nd place! Well, whadya know? Hehe.

Free Overnight Stay at Marriot

I spent last night at Marriott Hotel, Cebu with my wife courtesy of a gift certificate she won in one of her seminars. I am not sure how many stars the hotel sports but I'm guessing around 4. It's one of the prominent hotels around the city and I think it's an international brand.

The deluxe room where we stayed in was good enough for my standards. It was clean, the A/C was great and the huge flat-screen TV added satisfaction to the stay. I wasn't able to try the internet as I didn't bring a laptop. The bed was too short for me but the 6 pillows were good enough to compensate for the shortcomings (literally). The view from the window was awfully dominated by the parking lot of the adjacent mall. The availability of an ironing ensemble was good for the long-sleeved shirt I needed to wear to work the next day.

The bathroom was spacious and generally clean although wear and tear was evident on some parts. Hot and cold water was available both in the lavatory and the bathing area all in its leaky faucet glory. The lack of free toothpaste was disturbing. We found an accessories kit containing some thread and needles instead.
