One with the 'Droids

Today, I am officially one of them 'Droids! Today, I bought myself an Android-powered phone. It isn't anything fancy because I really don't intend to splurge a lot of money for a piece of technology which will be obsolete in 6 months tops. The phone I bought is an Alcatel OT-980.

It's probably one of the cheapest, if not THE cheapest, Android phone (regardless of OS version) out in the market as of 2011/05/15. When I bought mine, it cost me Php5999.00 spot cash (Php7990.00 if card; that's almost Php2000.00 difference). It sports Android 2.1 (Eclair) version and I am not sure if it can be upgraded to 2.2 but I really don't care right now. It's also a combo of touchscreen (resistive) and a physical full-QWERTY keyboard.

Looks like a Blackberry Torch 9800 but with Android! And it's cheaper!

I have been considering this phone as a replacement for an old Sony Ericsson K700i, along with the Nokia E5 (Php8790.00), Samsung Galaxy Pro (Php12490.00) and Acer beTouch E130 (Php7990.00). Obviously, I was on the lookout for phones with physical full-QWERTY keypad and OS-agnostic. But I think I got a good deal out of this one; it being an Android and touchscreen-and-physical-QWERTY bastard that it is. I just hope the quality is good and it will last me a long time.
